Thorold is one of our two snow towns, so the same properties can stay on one contract all year: the lawn from spring to fall, the driveway and sidewalk through the winter.

Lawn care & grass cutting

Regular grass cutting for a managed residential property.

On top of the escarpment

Thorold sits above the escarpment, with the Welland Canal and its flight locks cutting through the middle of the city. Lake Gibson, on the west side toward Beaverdams, is a reservoir made by flooding the shallow valley of Beaverdams Creek.

A city of licensed rentals

Since March 2018, Thorold's By-law 109-2017 has required a licence for almost every residential rental, renewed every two years. With Brock University on the city's doorstep, a lot of Thorold homes are let out — and a rental's lawn and sidewalk are the first things the neighbours see.

A fence rule of its own

Thorold's fence by-law, 28-2008, is stricter near the street than most. Within 4.5 m of the street in a front yard, a closed fence or a hedge is capped at 0.9 m and an open fence at 1.2 m. Behind the house the limit is 2 m, and only a pool enclosure needs a permit.

Winter is the owner's job

The City of Thorold gives owners 24 hours after a snowfall ends to clear their sidewalk, and it won't touch the snow its plow leaves at the bottom of the drive. Driveway snow also can't be pushed into the street, so it has to go somewhere on the lot.

Where we stop

Our Thorold coverage is four areas: Central Thorold, Confederation Heights, Rolling Meadows and Beaverdams. Thorold South isn't on our routes, for maintenance or for snow.

Questions from Thorold

Do you cut grass for rental properties in Thorold?

Yes. Landlords and property managers are about half of who we work for. A written scope covers how often the lawn is cut and what's trimmed, so you're not relying on a tenant.

Can I trim the City tree in front of my house in Thorold?

No. Thorold doesn't let owners trim City trees in front of or behind their homes, and removals are decided by the City's arborist. Your own trees are yours, and those we can quote.

Do you work out by Lake Gibson and Beaverdams?

Yes. Beaverdams is one of the four parts of Thorold we cover, along with Central Thorold, Confederation Heights and Rolling Meadows.

Do you cover Thorold South?

No. Our Thorold coverage is Central Thorold, Confederation Heights, Rolling Meadows and Beaverdams. If you're close to one of those, ask anyway.

Can one contract cover the lawn and the snow?

In Thorold, yes — it's one of the two towns where we run both, so the lawn, the fall cleanup and the winter sidewalk can sit on one scope with one contact.
