Cleanups, lawn care and property maintenance in Fonthill.

Spring and fall cleanups, grass cutting, tree and hedge trimming and eavestroughs in Fonthill, in the Town of Pelham — plus roofing, fences and sod when a property needs them.

After: the same Fonthill backyard with the leaves cleared, the lawn and dirt path uncovered and the ivy beds left tidy

The before and after on this page is one of ours: a wooded Fonthill backyard buried under a fall's worth of maple leaves, cleared back to lawn, path and tidy beds.

Most Fonthill work is the everyday kind: lawns kept cut, beds kept clear, trees kept off the roof. The sandy ground and the big trees change how each of those is done here.

Spring & fall cleanups

A fall leaf cleanup in a wooded backyard — lawn, path and beds cleared.

Built on the Kame

Fonthill sits on the Fonthill Kame-Delta, a mound of sand and gravel left by the glaciers that rises well above the clay plain around it — the highest ground in the region. The conservation authority calls it a horticultural island: the soil drains far better than almost anywhere else nearby.

Where Twelve Mile Creek starts

The main branch of Twelve Mile Creek begins on the Kame and runs north through Thorold and St. Catharines to the lake. Water leaves Fonthill yards quickly — good for drainage, harder on lawns in a dry July.

Pools, fences and sight lines

Pelham's Pool Fencing By-law 3389 requires a permit for a pool and an enclosure at least 1.5 m high. On corner lots, the zoning by-law also caps fences at 0.5 m inside the sight triangle at the intersection, so drivers can see around the corner.

Pelham's own advice on oaks

Pelham tells residents not to prune oak trees from April to October; the federal inspection agency says April to November. We work to the longer window, so an oak in a Fonthill yard is trimmed in winter or not at all.

Questions from Fonthill

Do you work in Fonthill and the rest of Pelham?

Fonthill, yes. For the rest of the Town of Pelham, send the address — you'll get a straight answer.

Why does my Fonthill lawn dry out faster than lawns in Welland?

Welland sits on heavy clay that holds water. Fonthill sits on the sand and gravel of the Kame, which drains fast. Same rain, very different lawns by August.

Does Pelham's oak advice change what you do in the fall?

Yes. Pelham asks residents not to prune oaks from April to October, and federal guidance runs to November, so any oak branches are left for a winter visit rather than cut during the fall cleanup.

Do you do cleanups on wooded lots?

Yes — the before and after on this page is one. Leaves come off the lawn, out of the beds and away from walls and paths, and they're hauled away.

Do you do snow removal in Fonthill?

No. Snow routes run in St. Catharines and Thorold. In Fonthill we're here from spring cleanups through the last leaves in the fall.

Does Pelham have a tree by-law for private yards?

No. In 2025 Pelham's council chose voluntary stewardship and planning updates instead of a private tree by-law. Woodlands of a hectare or more still fall under the Region's by-law.
