Spring & fall cleanups
A fall leaf cleanup in a wooded backyard — lawn, path and beds cleared.
Leaves off the lawn and out of the beds in the fall, and winter's debris cleared in the spring — for homes and managed properties in Fonthill.

The photos are from one of our Fonthill jobs. The backyard sits under tall trees, and by the time we got there the lawn, the path to the shed and the beds along the retaining wall had disappeared under leaves. After the cleanup, all three were back.
Spring & fall cleanups in Fonthill
A yard under big trees like that one doesn't get a light dusting in the fall — it gets a layer thick enough to hide the lawn. Left there, it mats down under the first snow and smothers the grass underneath. On a lot like that, one well-timed visit after most leaves are down beats raking every weekend.
Fonthill's soil is the sand and gravel of the Kame, so it drains fast and firms up quickly after rain. That makes spring cleanups here easier to schedule than on the clay plain below — the lawn can usually take foot traffic and equipment sooner.
If there's an oak in the yard, a fall cleanup is not the time to cut it back. Pelham asks residents not to prune oaks from April to October because of oak wilt; the federal guidance runs to November. Branch work on oaks goes on the winter list.

Yes. Fallen branches and storm debris are part of a cleanup. Niagara Region only collects bundled branches four weeks in spring and four in fall, and never large limbs, so it helps to have them go with the leaves.
Yes. Under big trees the troughs fill up at the same time as the lawn does, so clearing them on the fall cleanup visit, once most leaves are down, is the sensible time to do both.
A thin layer, shredded, can. A thick mat of whole leaves smothers plants and holds moisture against their crowns. Say how you want the beds left and it goes on the scope.
After most of the leaves are down — usually late October into November in Niagara. Too early and a second layer comes down behind you.
They're hauled away with the rest of the yard waste. Niagara Region does collect yard waste weekly, but only in compostable bags with no grass clippings, and a wooded lot fills a lot of bags.
Yes. Book both and they go on the calendar every year — fall for the leaves, spring for the branches, dead growth and debris the winter left behind.
Yes. Beds, the base of retaining walls and the corners where leaves pile up are part of the visit, not just the open lawn.
